The design and validation of control-command systems is based on a model-based approach: dynamic simulation and predictive control methodology. The hierarchical command considers several levels: the zero level concerns the easements (flow control, …), level 1 (simple or cascade) controls process variables. It is mainly at this level 1 that we intervene. Level 2 deals with static optimization and level 3 corresponds to the planning of the production. Sherpa Engineering has carried out numerous control-command projects for different systems in the metallurgical sector such as:

  • Hot and cold rolling mills: thickness control (feedback, feed-forward, mass-flow, false-round compensation, chatter compensation)
  • Continuous casting: level control in the ingot mold and weight in the distributor
  • Strip storage: tape tension control
  • Heat treatment furnaces: temperature control of ingots and coils
